When I started painting most of my subjects were flowers or birds. Subjects that were easily accessible and in great abundance around my yard. These are the two stylized studies that eventually led to the large (48 inches wide by 36 inches tall) Crinum painting. The first Study seemed a little too reserved for what I wanted the larger painting to illustrate. So, with the completion of the second Study I had created a firm footing that I continued into the larger painting. I love the feeling of Spring and these flowers appearing in large stands in our front yard.
