My trip to the West Coast and LA is the subject of a number of paintings in this exhibit. Until seeing the number of paintings with the west coast as the focus I didn’t realize what an indelible impression that trip had on me. It shows up again and again in my paintings. I used the vernacular of my Yankee upbringing, “shore” instead of the California term of coast or beach. The Malibu coastline and Pacific Coast Highway were a visual Tour de Force to a guy who grew up on Haulover Beach in Miami. Visually and texturally, the beaches in Malibu, Sandy Hook in New Jersey, Miami, and the Gulf Coast are all unique. Certainly, their differences allow me to keep a smile on my face and a happy heart with the memories.
