This was a very traumatic abstract landscape for me. How it came together I couldn’t tell you. The canvas and paint brush certainly had a mind of their own. A house fire, Long Covid and the death of my oldest sister all in a two-year window of time was its impetus. As the disasters piled up the more, I felt like I was retreating into myself. This painting in many ways encapsulates those times and emotions. The scenery around the slowly disappearing figure in the bottom right shows a clear moderately detailed cold and inhospitable landscape. It certainly represented that present moment. The background of the painting has a gentle illuminated abstract mountain scape. Possibly inferring the chance of better times to come. The cathartic nature of the painting allowed me to pour out my emotions. When I put the paint brush down to the completed work, I had accepted the bad times for what they were and put it in my past.
